Shri Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan is a career diplomat and joined the Indian Foreign Service in the year 2005. Prior to his appointment to Consul General of India at Atlanta, he served in various capacities at the Ministry of External Affairs. He has served as Joint Secretary (Summits) looking after the operation aspects of G20 Meetings during India’s G20 Presidency which commenced in December, 2022.
While heading the Rapid Response Cell Division, as an additional charge, he was in-charge of the Ministry of External Affairs’ control room during Operation Ganga, an evacuation mission carried out by the Indian government to rescue its citizens stranded in neighboring countries of Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. He also served as Director in Administration & Human Resources and Policy Planning Divisions. During his previous overseas diplomatic assignments, he served in various positions at Indian Missions in Moscow, Dushanbe, Paris and Colombo handling political, commercial and cultural aspects of relations.
During his last tenure in New Delhi (2011 to 2013), he was a Desk Officer for the southern African countries in the Africa Division. He holds a Master’s degree in science faculty. He is married to S. Renuga Devi, who is a Occupational Therapist by profession and has a daughter and a son.
ACIR President Mark Pierson and India
ACIR's new President studied for six months in Allahabad, India and travelled the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari by himself at the age of 20. He wrote his undergraduate thesis at the College of Wooster on "The Partition of India" using Indian, Pakistani, British, and American sources for his research. While studying for his Master's degree at the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce, he undertook a project with former Indian Ambassador Kewal Singh to investigate opportunities for American companies in India.
He was President of the Georgia India-Amercan Chamber from 2016-2018 and sits on the GIACC's Corporate Advisory Board.
