Director Of Human Resources (Volunteer)

The Atlanta Council on International Relations (ACIR), the oldest International affairs organization in Atlanta, GA, is recruiting for a Director of Human Resources (HR)

The Director of HR is responsible for advancing the Board of Director’s strategic plan for recruiting talent, including internships, volunteers, deputy directors, and other directors. Additionally, the Director of HR is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of ACIR’s succession planning, hiring processes, and human capital planning.

He/She will serve as the liaison for the HR and Nomination Committees to build a strong people-first culture within the ACIR; works closely with the CEO and other department leaders to achieve the human capital needs of ACIR.

Responsibilities

  • Leads ACIR’s overall efforts to recruit & retain new hires and personnel.
  • Oversees ACIR’s hiring & screening workflows and operating procedures.
  • Establish programs to build a database of candidates and volunteers.
  • Collaborates with ACIR leadership to build a staffing and human capital plan that aligns with ACIR’s mission.
  • Actively builds relationships with stakeholders, including local professional organizations and universities, to build a talent pipeline.
  • Drives the performance organizational structure process, including job titles, job descriptions, and job functions to ensure best alignment with ACIR mission.
  • Serves as an expert to the ACIR Board of Directors on HR best practices.
  • Solicits feedback from current ACIR personnel and leadership to improve the organization’s performance.
  • Serves a 2-year term on the ACIR Board of Directors.

Qualifications

This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse environment focused on advancing awareness of international relations and foreign policy.

  • Experience in career development or human resource management.
  • Experience in growing membership/customers and strengthening membership/customer retention.
  • Understanding and interest in international relations and foreign policy preferred.
  • Experience in governance or as a board member of 501(c)(3) or other membership organizations.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills with stakeholders, anticipate needs, determine priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite of tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to high level of customer service.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with members and stakeholders outside the organization.
  • Ability to travel in the Metro Atlanta area to attend ACIR events (held monthly), attend board meetings (held quarterly), and to meet with ACIR stakeholders (as needed).
  • Professional HR credentials, including PHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent are advantageous.
  • Ability to commit 10-20 hours per week in a volunteer capacity to serve the ACIR.
